Tennis: $10,000 up for grabs in McDan Tennis Open

The winner of the 2017 edition of the McDan Tennis Open is set to take home a whopping $10,000 prize money and a giant trophy according to the organizers of the event.
The week-long event which is in its fourth year is set to begin at the Tennis Court of the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, April 24 to Saturday, April 29, 2017.
Addressing the gathering at the launch of the event, Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies who are also the sponsors of the competition, Mr Daniel McCauley thanked the media for their support in propagating the sport.
He said it was through the support of the media that has made the event big for the past three years.
“We are trying to raise the image of Tennis in the country to higher height, Ghanaians complain too much so we at McDan have come on board to support the development of tennis. We also see this investment as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“We have been helping for the past years and it gets better every year and we are hoping this year’s edition becomes exceptional. I will take this advantage to urge other cooperate bodies to adopt other sporting disciplines to help our sports men and women in the country.”
Ahead of the competition, Mr McCauley is also renovating the tennis court at a cost of GH₵50,000.
President of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), Mr Isaac DuahAboagye expressed his Federation’s gratitude to the McDan Group of Companies especially the Group Chairman for their continuous investment in the development of tennis.
He assured them of the Federation’s commitment to do their best to lift the image of tennis in the country.
He also called on other corporate bodies to come on board and support the growth of the sport across the country.
The championship has now gained popularity across Africa and beyond with last year recording over 200 participants from Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire.
Registration is currently ongoing at the GTF secretariat and ends on April 21.
